Lucy- 1 Month Old

Lucy 1 Month

Length: 21 inches
Weight: 8lbs 6ounces
Appearance: she is losing some of her hair and has a little bit of baby acne. She has the most adorable birthmark on her upper back which looks almost identical to mine. She has long fingers, long legs and huge button eyes. Her belly is starting to get a little chunky as well as her adorable cheeks. She has her Daddy's nose and her Mommy's lips. We predict her eyes will turn out just like Matt's and be dark brown.
Firsts: She can officially distinguish my voice and follows me with her eyes. I caught her sucking her thumb for the first time. We went on our first shopping adventure with her grandma, her aunt Meridith, aunt Jami and her future BFF Georgia Kay. We did our first long car ride from Florida to North Carolina (so not fun). I am counting her first time smiling at me after tickling under her chin. We had our first trip to the hair salon and she acted like a champ (slept the whole time). First poopy blow out just prior to my hair appointment. Luckily my mom came to the rescue with a fresh onsie and a positive attitude while I freaked out. Matt fed her very first bottle and she did great!
Personality: Loves to cuddle and fall asleep on just about anybody. Loves to be rocked and singed to. Loves to purse her lips and coo. Enjoys eating ALL the time and keeping me on my toes. Just when I think I've got this little lady figured out she throws me for a loop and makes her own schedule. She loves bath time (only after a full belly) and loves to wear hair bows.. (well I'm assuming!) She loves to smile at her grandmom first thing in the morning.. (while I goo goo at her all day long and don't get a smirk!) She loves to be carried in the front carrier.
Other: Overall she is a easy going child. She doesn't love complete silence, or complete darkness. She does enjoy the vacuum running and lots of noise, it seems to send her right to sleep. She sleeps anywhere from 2 to 4 hours total and as hard as it is to get up in the middle of the night it's absolutely wonderful to see her staring up at me. She doesn't like her carseat much or car rides. The heat seems to make her a little fussy if I tote her around too long in it.
How Mama is feeling: The first few weeks were kind of a blur mixed with exhaustion, stress, and sheer happiness. Now after 6 weeks I truly feel like I have a better handle on this whole motherhood thing. There are times when I can't seem to soothe her or figure out just why she is crying but in the end we always figure out something. I have my six week checkup next week and I am excited to get back to running and exercising again. I've learned so far that Lucy runs my world and I'm loving every second of it. I never knew how much love I could have for someone who I've known such a short amount of time. She is all consuming and I love every second of it.
What I've learned as a mom: They have to eventually stop crying.. they have to  eventually fall asleep and if they want something I shouldn't worry because she will surely let me know :-) I've also learned that the term "schedule" has a very lose meaning when you have a one month old. There is no schedule.. maybe a routine? I've learned to let things happen as they do and to not be so hung up on what the books say. (and I've read a lot of them) Every baby is different and each baby can behave differently every day. I also learned to avoid spicy foods and tomatoes.. Lucy gets quite the attitude when she has gas.

Other Life events!
Just after Lucy's birth Matt received his shiny gold wings! I couldn't be more proud of him. For the past two years he has worked so hard and he can now officially call himself an aviator for the Marine Corps! He selected the UH 1 Yankee or the Huey and we will initally head to Pendleton near San Diego California for FRS training (roughly 4-9 months). Then our first permanent duty station will be in Jacksonville, North Carolina, just 1 hour away from my parents! We are looking forward to spending some time on the west coast but we are fortunate to be near family for our first permanent duty station. It will be wonderful to celebrate Lucy's milestones with family and friends so close.

For the last 4 ish weeks I've been at my mom and dad's house and it has been absolutely wonderful. My mom is always there to offer advice and encouragement as well as an extra pair of hands. (especially to rock her to sleep at night) Matt is currently in route to California with our belongings and two dogs. We can't wait to be with him again and I know he is missing Lucy like crazy! Lucy and I will be joining him on September 5th via airplane (thank god). I've been so lucky to get to spend time with not only my mom and dad but also my grandmother, sister, brother-in-law, close friends, mother & father-in laws, sister-in-laws and nephew and niece. Lucy got to meet her aunti Meridith before she too moved across country for OR nurse training. I've also been able to see Jami and DJ multiple times and Lucy and Georgia have loved their play dates!

I apologize for the low quality photos. I've taken tons on my camera however I don't have access to my own computer so cell phone photos will have to do for now! I will upload all the other photos once we get settled in Cali

I love this little lady:
